The British lingerie label Agent Provocateur, the new couture line, will arrive in New York, Miami and Los Angeles stores in November – and will boast underwear pieces in Swarovski-encrusted French lace and hand-studded Italian leather, retailing for up to $4,900 – The Daily reports today.

With the theatrical flair typical of haute couture, Christian Dior debuted its Autumn-Winter 2009/2010 couture collection this month, featuring beautiful sheers and daring displays of the oh-so sexy lingerie that lies beneath. Designed by John Galliano, the collection fused the classic elegance of Dior fashion with a brazen, yet sophisticated reverence towards femininity. With an energizing color palette of bright yellows, oranges, purples and pinks mixed with traditional neutrals, the designs were captivating with bras, corsets, garters, stockings and tap pants revealed.

As only top designers can get away with, lingerie as outerwear, in this instance, has been taken to a tasteful extreme that very few in today’s modern society can get away with wearing. But isn’t this what all of these shows present to us–a fanciful take on fashion, which is later woven into an everyday adaptation? I’m sure many jumped with glee to purchase these gorgeous creations and will soon be flaunting their undercover beauty. I would, if thought I could get away with it. I find them fascinating, yet they remind me of one of my inner-most fears—that is, rushing out the door and forgetting to put my skirt on. I have to say, I am happy that I have always invested in pretty undergarments. Whether you plan to display them or accidentally do what I did years ago—that is doing a “Marilyn Monroe” over a NYC vent, the importance of beautiful undergarments cannot be over emphasized. Feel sexy, pretty or simply feminine when think about what you’re wearing as a foundation, even if only you know about it.
