Did you know there was a holiday celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future? Now observed on March 8th, International Women’s Day traces its roots back to the early 1900’s and is a national holiday is some countries. It’s a fabulous way to recognize the contributions women make to this world and inspirational its own right, yet why is it that few Americans today have heard about it. In fact, this special day was first observed in the US in 1909 – thanks to the efforts and declaration of the Socialist Party of America. It was later acknowledged and honored on an international level in 1911.

Rejoice in the woman you are, the women you know or have known. Think about the female leaders you have the potential to inspire. Embrace your femininity and be proud. Indeed, this is a feel good occasion and a time to enjoy life and simple pleasures.
